Fines imposed on truck produers due to involvement in cartel

European Commission found that truck producers MAN, Volvo/Renault, Daimler, Iveco and DAF violated EU antitrust rules. Those truck producers colluded through a cartel for 14 years between 1997 – 2011 on truck pricing and passing on of costs of compliance with emission rules. Senior managers of truck producers held meetings during trade fairs and other events and complemented those meetings with phone calls. Cartel participants were imposed a record fine of €2.93 billion. MAN received total immunity and avoided a fine of €1.2 billion whereas Volvo/Renault, Daimler and Iveco received reductions as they acknowledged their participation in the cartel and settled with the European Commission.
