European Commission fined producers of electrolytic capacitors €254 million

The European Commission fined Elna, Hitachi Chemical, Holy Stone, Matsuo, NEC Tokin, Nichicon, Nippon Chemi-Con and Rubycon for participating in a cartel for the supply of aluminium and tantalum electrolytic capacitors. The eight undertakings were fined approx. € 254 million for the cartel which lasted between 1998 and 2012. One of the cartel participants, namely Sanyo, received immunity from fines as it revealed the existence of cartel to the European Commission.
