European Commission fined Tokai Rika, Takata, Autoliv, Toyoda Gosei and Marutaka € 34 million for taking part in one or more of four cartels with an aim to coordinate prices or markets and exchange sensitive information regarding the supply of seatbelts, airbags and steering wheels to Japanese car manufacturers Toyota, Suzuki and Honda operating in the European Economic Area. All suppliers admitted their involvement in the cartels and settled the case. Takata was not fined for three of the cartels whereas Tokai Rika was not fined for one of the cartels as they revealed their existence to the European Commission.
